New East Side

The term New East Side is a relatively new one and is used to describe the high-rise and high-rent district east of Michigan Avenue, south of the river, and north of Grant Park.

Built on air rights over land once occupied by railroad yards, this corner of downtown Chicago is home to two marinas, world class hotels and high rise apartments that are creating a new residential neighborhood that's ultra-convenient for those who work downtown. The area is essentially one of elite hotels, residential towers, upscale high-rise and office buildings. The East Side is definitely a luxury privacy zone.

Chicago's New East Side was designated an official Chicago neighborhood by the Mayor, and is recognized as a major part of the beautiful Chicago skyline. Anchored by the original skyscraper, One Prudential Plaza, the area has been expanding and building ever since. There is an underground network of pedestrian corridors that links most of the buildings to hotels, retail, the Chicago Transit Authority and the Randolph Street Station. The three-tiered New East Side keeps truck traffic down below, pedestrians above.

Chicago's "New" East Side can be considered part of Downtown. New construction along the river and a new multi-faceted development is going up where the golf course used to stand. Near the Loop - and many of Chicago's restaurants, shopping areas, theaters, museums and entertainment - the area also offers its residents breathtaking, spectacular views of the city and lake. Housing options range from convertible studios to one-, two- and three-bedrooms to penthouse suites. With the ultimate of offices, condominiums, hotels, restaurants, athletic clubs and shopping, people who live, work and play on the New East Side experience the advantages of the best in luxury living.
