Real Estate In Buena Park

Located in Uptown - this mid north side community is home to Buena Park — which runs from Irving Park north to Montrose; the lake west to Clark. It is adjacent to the Graceland Cemetery and near to Sheridan Park (they meet almost corner to corner).

Buena Park was that was one of the most fashionable places in the city to live at the turn of the century and designated as a National Register Historic District in 1984. It is home to such architectural gems as the fantastic example of Queen Anne style houses - the John Scales home. Built in 1893 by an important Prairie-School architect, it is one of the oldest homes in the neighborhood. Many larger homes were converted into smaller units after World War II, essentially creating multifamily buildings. A few years ago Buena Park did not have name recognition, but that’s changed. Now most people who are looking to buy in Buena Park already know someone who lives in the area. Buena Park has begun to regain its former status. The great thing about this neighborhood is that it’s still pretty affordable. And this is prime lakefront property. While prices in Buena Park are still considerably less than those in Lakeview, property values have been rising steadily. New construction is consistent in scale and appearance with the many vintage buildings and many new condos are being gutted and rehabbed.

From the early 1980s to the early 1990s, the housing stock underwent substantial renovation. Lately, the commercial side has started to catch up as there are other signs of development - new bars and restaurants and renovated Jewel on Montrose. A dog park (Challenger Bark) is planned near Challenger Park and the Buena Playlot which is at Kenmore and Buena.

There are two colleges in the area - Truman College and St. Augustine. And the most famous cemetery in Chicago is in the area, Graceland. It contains magnificent tombs of many of 19th-century Chicago's greatest architects, mayors, and business men.
