West Ridge is the area west of Ridge Boulevard to Kedzie Avenue bordered by Howard and Peterson. In 1990, 65,374 people called West Ridge home.

The area has a variety of bungalows, Georgian, Victorian and ranch homes. Although the majority of the people live in single family homes, there are some large apartment complexes and many owner-occupied two and three-flats in the area. Many rental units are in walk-ups. In 1998 single-family homes in West Rogers Park sold for an average of $194,091.

One of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States, the latest census figures for Rogers Park showed the neighborhood is 32 percent white, 30 percent black, 28 percent Latino, and 6 percent Asian (West Rogers Park is 23 percent Asian). These new census figures show that West Rogers Park's white, black, Asian and Hispanic populations are almost equal. This diversity is obviously reflected in the restaurants and stores offering their services to the community. There is even a kosher Dunkin Donuts.

Devon Avenue, which has the honorary name of Golda Meir Way on one end and Gandhi Marg on the other, is the heart of West Rogers Park. West of Western on Devon, is one of largest Indian communities in the country. Further west on Devon is the heart of one of Chicago's historic Jewish communities, founded in the early 20 century.

About one-third of the Chicagoland area's Jews live in the city of Chicago, with a large percentage of them in West Rogers Park. It has the largest concentration of kosher delis and restaurants, synagogues and Jewish-owned businesses than any other area in the Midwest.
